During this weeks course of events, I attended a conference where leaders from all over the country gathered in preparation for church planting. Looking around I sensed the anticipation of my peers to gain some new spiritual wisdom on how to start or grow a church. The room was filled with all types of leaders from young to old, different colors and backgrounds but corporately in unison to expand the Kingdom of God. As the first speaker geared up to deliver a message on the innovation of planting a church all I kept hearing in my heart was the heightened sense that I was about to be taken to a new experience I’ve never crossed paths with. The day carried on with breakout sessions, prayer, and food but I left with something craving, yearning like a long-awaited reunion with a distant relative. What I desired most was an Elixir Experience.

For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit.

1 Cor. 12:13

The problem stems with the believer not embracing what’s freely given (1 Cor.2:12) to him by the Father. We dare not cross the threshold of emptiness when power from on high is readily available. Gifts we have squandered away like an old piece of clothing, moving on to the next best thing. It’s the very thing inside us that cries out for just a taste of His glory. The indwelling of the Paraclete resides deep, pass the deceitful tongue (James 3:8), down through the wicked heart (Jer.17:9) and yet the Spirit still find residence within us. The Elixir was used as a healing device that housed the antidotes to cure multitudes of their sickness. This agent demonstrated its usefulness when anyone would drink it.

Question: How much of God will you take in?

Are we to sit around idle, waiting for the trumpet to blast or do we make preparations for the spiritual warfare ahead? The zone of comfort has tried to deceive us into believing we aren’t the instruments of God. Like we’re some useless tool that hasn’t been taken out in quite some time. Faith directs us into the loving arms of our creator and there is no greater feeling than laying at His bosom (Isa.40:11). The church today is mandated to greatness, in a relentless pursuit of soul seeking and an endeavor to make Christ known on earth. We are in dire need of a fresh drink, a thirst that can’t be quenched by any means but together for the Gospel in fervent ambition to see the Glory of God on display.

The time for preaching to the masses begins by the outpouring of the third person in the triune Godhead. Some of us have the intellectual know-how to pierce at the mind of man but the heart is unscathed, a forgotten element in the course of evangelism. Being filled in the Spirit has lost its significance, replaced by our lip serve (Isa.29:13). The perpetual flow of God’s Spirit will satisfy the thirsty soul (John 4:14) and will never run dry because its source is unending. Let us eat and drink as Paul did (1 Cor.15:32), dying to self daily in order so we could experience the Spirit of God in newness of life.
